How AI and Human Behaviors Shape Psychosocial Effects of Extended Chatbot Use: A Longitudinal Randomized Controlled Study

A four-week study of 981 participants examining interaction modes, conversation topics and psychosocial outcomes.

What it contributes

The updated abstract reports no significant effects of assigned conditions, while greater voluntary use was associated with worse psychosocial outcomes. This makes the distinction between experimental comparisons and observational associations especially important.

Read with care

Usage duration was not randomised. Its association with outcomes does not establish that longer use caused those outcomes. The study's four-week scope also limits conclusions about months or years of use.

Why it belongs here

Read alongside the loneliness paper: timescale, comparison groups and outcome definitions matter.
